I wish to congratulate all opposition parties for conducting their congresses in a peaceful and mature manner. I know that others would have wished them otherwise. I also wish to congratulate the new central committees appointed to these parties and wish them well, most importantly the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) for considering cooperating with other opposition Parties under the Umbrella. Should they go ahead with these plans the BCP will no longer be enemy to the opposition. For the opposition to make history in 2019, they all have to unite and team up against BDP. They need to mature fast and stop hurling insults at each other. They need each other regardless of which party is older or which one is growing faster than which one or which one has more seats in Parliament.

Batswana at large have always said Botswana needs a strong opposition. That is still true to date. But Batswana are now anxious for have the alternative government they have long been waiting for. Botswana Democratic Party is poised to lose the next elections, provided the UDC stays alert and on the lookout for the usual BDP dirty tricks, including infiltration. The UDC must also have a strong backbone and weed out the few who refuse to stay focused on the big picture. Some of us who used to be political activists where we were wish for a peaceful country, good governance, tolerant and a country with a thriving economy as it was in the past. We feel very strongly that the BDP has done its part and the time for change is now. Come 2019, Batswana must move forward and vote a movement that will take our country to greater heights, rid it of endemic corruption and enable our country to take its rightful place in the international community of nations.

The next elections in Botswana have been prophesied and predicted by many, to be a do or die for the opposition. But prophesies alone will not be enough, campaigning has to start now. The writing is on the wall. It is now or never. To those who can’t see it or pretend that all is well, all I can say is sorry, but you need to be born again in the baptism of politics not fire. Lastly, May the gracious Lord, be with all our political leaders, now through to 2019 and for ever more. Amen!
