It is with deep sadness that I learnt of the passing away of your father, Julian Mukwesu Nganunu.

His service to the Republic of Botswana spans many years, and includes such critical positions as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Minerals and Water Affairs, where he played an important role in the negotiation of the early mining leases and other agreements that laid the foundation for the success we have registered in the minerals sector.

The late Mr Nganunu also acted as Attorney General of Botswana, before he was appointed to become a Judge of the High Court on 24 January 1992. His subsequent appointment to the highest judicial office of Chief Justice of Botswana on 23 July 1997 was in recognition of his excellent achievements in the legal profession, a position he held until his retirement on 1st February 2010.

Please accept my sincerest condolences, which I send also on behalf of the government and people of Botswana, on the loss of your father.
