Road Traffic Act (Amendment) regulations

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Honourable Tshenolo Mabeo wishes to inform and sensitise the general public on the recently amended Road Traffic Act regulations published in the Government Gazette of 23rd October 2015, Vol. III, No  55.  (i)  A holder of a driving license issued in a SADC country shall not be required to convert his driving license to a Botswana driving license whilst staying in Botswana, but upon expiry of such license, the holder may- Convert such license to a Botswana driving license or Renew his license in the country where such license was issued.


(ii) The tenth schedule, Driving Test, regulation 13 has been amended by exempting holders of class B, EB, C1, C, EC1, EC from holding class F driving license.

(iii)  A public service vehicle driving license issued in Botswana shall be converted into a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) without the holder being subjected to a driving test, provided the validity of such license has not expired. These regulations have amended regulation 12 sub-regulation (3) concerning provisional driving license by extending its validity from six months to 24 months. Regulation 13 sub-regulation (9) (i) is amended by increasing the validity of driving test results from 12 months to 24 months.
