The Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security herewith informs the public that Section 3 of the Foreign Enlistment Act (CAP 21:06) prohibits any citizen of Botswana, to accept, commission or engage in the military service of any other country, or induces any other person whether citizen or not, to accept or agree to commission or engage in the military service of any country, without first obtaining, in writing, the permission of the President, such permission cannot be granted retrospectively.  Any person convicted for this office, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment not exceeding of 10 years.

It has come to the attention of the Botswana Government that contrary to this, there are Botswana citizens who have enlisted in the military service of other countries without such permission. This is unlawful and all those concerned are advised that they have contravened the law and are liable for prosecution for such offence.
