The Botswana National Front (BNF) would like to thank its Umbrella For Democratic Change (UDC) partners and the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) for wrestling the Tsabong North and Boikago/Madiba wards from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in the recent by-elections. The acknowledgement and gratitude is also extended to trade unions and civil society activists in general, who spent their personal resources in the Kgalagadi South and Palapye constituencies respectively. The top prize, however, goes to the voters who confidently sent Cdes Mock Ntau and Area Gabathuse to their respective councils. The victories come against a well-resourced BDP which enjoyed massive coverage by the state media – Botswana Television, Radio Botswana and the Botswana Daily News. The BDP continued to enjoy sponsorship from the taxpayer through the office of the Vice President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, who flew into Tsabong and Palapye several times using the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) helicopter and government vehicles. The BDP old dirty tricks of buying voters with money, food, alcohol, etc and using the Directorate of Intelligence Services (DIS) to spy on the opposition parties backfired as Batswana expressed their disgust at the desperately dangerous BDP. The party's unruly behaviour played itself out as they disrupted UDC rallies, with high speed vehicles blaring loud hooters.
A UDC member’s vehicle windscreen was smashed and broken during the sponsored harassment and intimidation. The BNF would like to thank the Police service and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for their speedy intervention in arresting the matter before it became uncontrollable. The BNF calls upon all UDC, BCP, trade unions, workers, and civil society activists to once again move their luggage to Rasesa and Tlokweng respectively for the forthcoming council and parliamentary by-elections. We further encourage each and every citizen who had not made it to Tsabong and Palapye to come out and assist in the campaign as the BDP will as usual splash national resources and engage in other dirty tricks. Voters must protect democracy and the few national resources as the journey to kick out BDP in 2019 intensifies. Voters should cast their votes for Cdes Kenneth Masego Segokgo and Buisanyang Botho, Tlokweng parliamentary and Rasesa council candidates respectively. Once more, the united opposition thanks Batswana for demonstrating their disdain towards BDP corruption, mismanagement, poor education system, unemployment, harassment of trade unions, poverty, etc.
