The leader of the opposition in parliament, Duma Boko of the Umbrella for Democratic Change has congratulated DRC President-Elect Felix Tshisekedi, on assuming the role of leading the country into a prosperous future.

Boko commended Tshisekedi on peacefully and democratically ushering in a new era in the DRC’s political history despite the security and logistical challenges the country faced, following the national elections that were conducted on 30 December 2018 and the ruling of the Constitutional Court on 19 January 2019.

Boko said Tshisekedi should be further lauded for demonstrating composure and not interfering with the justice system's mandate of confirming the election results.

Calling on all stakeholders to embrace the outcome of the Constitutional Court and accept Tshisekedi as the next democratically elected leader of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Boko said the Congolese people and world at large had a duty to get behind His Excellency Tshisekedi and his government in maintaining unity, peace and stability; and attaining socio-economic development in the DRC.

Boko reiterated how the Democratic Republic of Congo could be seen as a shining example of how a country’s history, no matter how painful, could turn things around for the better.

"The DRC has shown the world that a country can achieve incredible feats when its people stand united to demand a better future," said Boko.
