Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) in partnership with Botswana Bond Market Association (BBMA) is gearing to hold a bond market conference in October this year. The conference is to be held under the theme; ‘a pillar of the economy’ will have the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) Chief Executive, Boitumelo Molefe deliver a keynote address. A number of topics relating to the bond market are set to be discussed at the day-long event, including the status of Botswana’s bond market, Botswana bond market development strategy and bond market as a pillar of the economy.
Other discussions will look into the broader scope of the bond market such as Botswana’s macroeconomic outlook and implications for the bond market as well as status of the Africa bond market with a case study on Kenya and Nigeria and lessons that Botswana can draw from the two markets. The conference also seeks to find ways on how bond markets can support economic growth and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
Panelists from the financial markets are further expected to deliberate on the role of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in the development of Africa’s Domestic Bond Markets: African Domestic Bond Fund (ADBF). Speakers at the event will be mainly from the financial markets in Botswana, Kenya and South Africa.
