Barclays launches digital channels

Barclays Bank Botswana on Thursday revealed its upgraded and refreshed look and feel for its mobile banking app. When launching the refreshed look, Barclays’ Retail Banking Director Brighton Banda said they started their digital platforms nine years ago as way for convenience for their customers.

He said the latest upgraded app will give customers an array of choices to make transactions in just a click. With the app, users are able to make transactions such as payment of bills, electricity and purchase of airtime. Banda explained that they have identified Digital Banking as a critical element that is needed to drive their strategy now and in the future. “Our commitment towards this strategic pillar is underpinned by our current heavy investment towards maintaining, upgrading and developing our digital platforms,” he said.

As customer spend so much time online on their phones and on the internet, this trend is said to e forcing banks to be innovative and provide platforms for them to bank wherever they are. The says it embarked on a digital journey nine years ago and today provides convenient banking across all its digital platforms being mobile, internet and through a network of ATMs.

Banda said these days customers are time conscious and said as the bank they want customers to have time to do things that matter the most in their lives than spending time in banking halls, and digital banking platforms are critical to fulfill this purpose. The airtime functionality is said to have been made in such a way that it has the ability to pick a number from the contact list on the phone rather than inputting the number in the traditional manner.
