When one derives inspiration from Maya Angelou chances are they are often focused, sober-minded and achievers who have all their goals in check. For Tebogo Olefile, this great American poet’s quotation; “success likes yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it,” keeps her going and has seen her reaching great heights in her career. Olefile started working for Letshego as a temporary filling clerk in 2004; she was confirmed as a permanent employee within a year in July 2005 and promoted again after a year to be a sales consultant. In 2011 she was seconded to the credit department as a collections consultant. In 2012, she acted in the Senior Sales Officer position until she was promoted to be an Approvals Supervisor in September 2015.
As an Approvals Supervisor, Olefile among others supervises the approvals department activities to ensure compliance to set policies and procedures, ensure that loans are approved within stipulated time frame and ensure compliance with regulatory laws. It is without doubt that Olefile handles some of the company’s most sensitive information and executes crucial tasks to ensure that both the client and the company benefit positively, hence some of the challenges she is faced with include confidentiality assurance, and making sure everything done is always done by the book. As a team player, she says, her ambition to acquire knowledge always inspires her to make a difference in her life and to inspire others, most importantly those reporting to her and those she share ideas with.
Although she supports the empowerment of women especially through set laws and policies, the 33- year-old married mother of three, says women too need to be proactive in their quest to attain success. “For a person to get opportunities, they have to show the drive; their character and attitude towards work also counts,” said Olefile. To inspire other women, especially young women, she says faith, perseverance, ambition are the main drivers to success. “Be proud of every step you take towards reaching your goal. It does not matter how much life knocks you down; you have to get back up and keep trying,” she says. To relax, Olefile says she plays soccer. Although she used to play volleyball too, her time nowadays is mostly spent with family.
