Les Wear Collections by designer Lesley Mmokele stunned with his refreshing designs at the Fashion X show at Pavilion last weekend. The show was part of the consumer fair. He proved that corporate wear does not have to be boring with dull suits and plain skirts or trousers. Mmokele said when he did the collection he was trying to show smart fitted suits, contemporary suits and slim fit suits. The whole concept was to take the normal suit and add contemporary changes to it while at the same time maintaining the ethical side of a suit. This saw men parading in suits of different patterns and colours. “The most important thing about the collection was the colour and the fit,” he said. He said he also took into consideration that what is on trend this season when it comes to formal wear is wearing a jacket that does not match a trouser which means that it has to be done well and creatively.
For women, he showcased plaid trousers and shirts while having different styles of blazers that screamed elegance, class and sophistication. There were double breasted blazers for women that make them look like goddesses. Mmokele said when choosing his models he was careful because he did not want models that will not demonstrate his concept well. He said he got a great response from the show especially from the mature audience because he made a collection fit for them where the mature corporate women can just wear that and feel very stylish. He said it was just old school mixed with contemporary. Les Wears is not only about formal wear; to the contrary Mmokele said his brand is predominantly casual where he uses denim most of the time. Abigail Sehunelo of Funky Resy also seemed to usher Batswana into spring with style when she also exhibited designs that are very colourful. She said that her designs for the night were inspired by the Nigerian outfits and the colour white. Other designers that showcased at the fashion show were Aobakwe Molosiwa of Gilded Sands who showed very sexy and revealing outfits while Theo Khumalo of Ragged killed funky.
