Former Fatboy challenge 2nd runner up Thato Mahube successfully held the Fun fitness brunch over the weekend, which took place at Urban Space in Gaborone. The seminar touched on various health aspects including exercise, healthy food demonstration, health talk by experts, dietician, psychologist and fitness experts. Mahube said this was aimed at educating people on health and nutrition as a whole since Botswana has been ranked as one of the top three countries in Africa with 18% of cardiovascular diseases and non-communicable diseases which can be prevented through healthy eating and exercise. “We believe that resorting to a healthy lifestyle is the only solution to obesity and silent illnesses,” he said. Simple demonstrations were revealed at the Fun Fitness Brunch Seminar with Mmamotse Maloka, a South African fitness trainer, sharing how she keeps healthy. Maloka said it was the loss of her mother to a communicable disease that prompted her to go on a mission to fight the diseases by encouraging a healthy lifestyle. She specialises in corporate fitness, group fitness, one on ones and talks in health seminars. Some of the local trainers that graced the event are Chyna Mokaila of Ultimate Fitness and Hope and Nkamo of Zumba Latin fusion. Mahube referred to the event as an informative and yet entertaining event but at the same time promoting a balanced healthy lifestyle for families and to help them achieve optimum health while having fun. The focus was on nutrition, mental, physical, spiritual and social well-being. People had the chance to enjoy fun exercise, good food, back massages and life changing advices on meal plans, home and office exercises. “We believe that your body is the only place you live in for the rest of your life so you have to take care of it,” Mahube said. The sponsors of the event were Urban Space, Dawn Events, Mr Veg and Aqua Power.
