Miss Botswana Seneo Mabengano is soaring through competitions and activities at the Miss World Competition that is underway in Sanya, China. As it is, Mabengano is ranked 18th out of 117 contestants in the online voting, and is on position 10 in the multi-media award. The multimedia award is apparently a beauty with a purpose award where contestants create multi-media files such as photos and videos taken during their stay in Sanya. She is currently the only contestant from Africa ranked that high.

Both the online and the multi-media award voting will continue until the day of the grand finale. The 19-year-old standing at 1.76 metres was crowned Miss Botswana in September after putting up a good fight against 15 other hopefuls in Gaborone. Some of the highlights of Mabengano’s stay in Sanya so far are her participation in Dances of the World activity using Hosanna traditional attire where she was chosen to give a speech.

Other activities which have taken place so far include the Street parade, the Haikou Carnival, the Sanya sea festival and a visit to underprivileged children. Miss World 2015 competition is slated for December 19, 2015.

What she will wear

The young beauty queen is dressed by Thabiso Dibeela of ThabieD designs. Dibeela told this publication that she designed two outfits for our beauty queen - one for the dinner night and another for the grand finale. The two dresses, according to Dibeela, are Mabengano’s concepts. “I sat her down and asked her to outline in detail what she wanted,” she said.

As she is a ‘simple girl with a simple style’ (as Dibeela puts it) Seneo went for just a simple blue traditional leteisi with a twist of modern (lace trimmings). For the grand finale the Mmadinare-born beauty queen also went for a simple design with beaded lace trimmings.  All this designs, according to Dibeela, were what she precisely wanted; being a simple girl she didn’t want her personality to be overpowered by what most would expect of an ordinary beauty queen. “She wanted to strike a balance between the two,” said Dibeela.
