She is new in the local music scene but has already made a mark for herself. She sings effortlessly and has a dancing poise that takes her apart from others. Has is a slow motion delivery. Orebotse Batoloki, also known as Mmaratwa, upstaged many when she got nominated in the Botswana Musicians Awards (BOMU) this year because of the immense airplay that she has been getting from the local radio stations.
Even though she lost to the controversial traditional dance heavy weight Shumba Ratshega, Mmaratwa’s songs continue to be a favourite with traditional music lovers. Her album title Setilo sa Matlabane has proven to be a hit. On what inspired the song, Maratwa said it was people who always wish bad for others and even spread lies about them. Her love for traditional music goes way back. She had always been part of traditional dance groups but Ditiro – a veteran traditional music singer – encouraged her to make sure that she does something on her own.
Being a newbie, Mmaratwa works hard every day to become even a much better person. She is amazed by the recognition and support she gets as a new artist. She is currently doing the circumcision tour where they encourage men around the country to go and circumcise in partnership with the Ministry of Health.
