Eric, Makwakwa nominated for Kora

Botswana's gospel sensation is continuing to shine in Africa, having received yet another big nomination this time for the Kora Awards that take place in Windhoek, Namibia on March 20, 2016.  Eric has been nominated in the Best Male Spiritual Music category where he faces five artists from four African countries being Namibia, Morocco, Burundi and Togo. He is thrilled by this recognition, saying even if he does not win his name and the country have been marketed. The nomination is courtesy of his hit song, Kabiosi. Eric has shown that he is a gospel artist to be reckoned with in the country and is recognised in the region and regularly performs with South Africa’s top artists.

He has denied that being the local Kora ambassador for Botswana provides a conflict of interest with being nominated. “To be nominated as the Kora Ambassador I had to submit my work so as many other local artists even to enter the awards I submitted my work also, so I really don’t understand if there is any conflict of interest,” he said. He added that he does not think that being the Kora ambassador had anything to do with his nomination but rather it was based on the work that he submitted.  Eric is not the only one that has been nominated for the Kora award in Botswana. Traditional group Makwakwa has also been nominated under the category of Best Traditional Group in Africa.
