Emmauel Boiki is the first grand winner of the Mascom Botswana Substance Abuse Network (BOSASNET) SMS challenge. The competition was launched last year December to help raise funds for BOSASNET. Boiki did not expect to win when he sent his SMS. He, like many others, was just trying his luck. He only sent one text message and that was it - in return he got P25 0000. “I think people should be inspired to take these competitions seriously because they might end up getting lucky like me,” he said.
BOSASNET got a boost from Mascom last year when they partnered with them in order to raise funds where they are entitled to 50% of the money that has been raised in the SMS competition. BOSASNET Acting Director Priscah Mokgadi appreciated Mascom’s efforts, saying Batswana’s participation shows that they want to help them. When the competition was launched last year Mokgadi confirmed that they were struggling financially.
Chief Marketing officer at Mascom Dzene Makhwade-Seboni said that the competition is for them to reward their customers for their loyalty. The competition will run until next month, but Mascom will continue to assist BOSASNET. For someone to take part all that they have to do is send the word BOSASNET to 14000 which then makes them eligible for the highest price of the week which is P20 000 while the highest in a month is P200 000.
