The legendary Soccer Moruakgomo is currently in a country wide tour searching for about 100 artistic young people to take part in the 50th independence celebrations. The talent search is done in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology. The search that started on January 29 targets 16-34 year olds.

The last day of the tour will take place at Limkokwing Campus in Gaborone on February 9. Participants should be good in dance, music and drama. Moruakgomo said they have been impressed with the large numbers of people that turned up for the auditions and the quality of talent in those places. He said even though they have not told those that they have chosen yet, they are really confident with most of the participants. “We are really impressed and I can tell you that Kang and Gantsi blew us away,” he said.

He said they are not only looking at traditional dancers but at contemporary dancers who have incredible skills that resemble a young Motswana. While they are looking to showcase the crew for BOT50, he is also looking for 26 members that he will include in his band that he will tour the world with. “I have choreographers here with me who are selecting those individuals that can make it in the best 26 for my band,” he said. One of the facilitators Kagiso Gumedi said that there is no doubt that the most iconic and recognisable names of all time are that of artists.

He said that the same way Sarafina showed the world a small part of a soul of Africa, as Limkokwing University and their partners they are looking for that same spark that they know lies in the youth of this nation. Troupes are expected to be able to incorporate and demonstrate three of the major dances which are Tsutsube, Speru and Hosana.
