The 2016 Botswana Consumer Fair will this year be preceded by a beauty pageant. The pageant will be themed ‘fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship in young women’. One of the organisers of the event Pitso Tlhalerwa said the young ladies aged between 18 and 28 years are eligible to compete for the crown. They are also expected to have a business concept that can be developed and showcased at the 2016 Botswana Consumer Fair. “A basic knowledge of Botswana business environment is key, coupled with good interpersonal skills and good service etiquette,” he said. Tlhalerwa said they are looking for a go getter with savvy entrepreneurial skills that they are looking for. He said that they will also get the opportunity to network with corporate entities in Botswana.

“The judges will be looking for a beautiful young lady with a brilliant business concept whether it’s operational already or still at conceptual stages,” he said. With the pageant giving an opportunity to those ladies who aspire to be entrepreneurs, Tlhalerwa said there are also lots of prizes to be won with P40 000 being the main prize and P10 000 investment portfolio with BTCL shares. Miss Botswana Consumer Fair does not have any strict regulations and they will not be looking even at height. Auditions will start in Gaborone on March 19, before moving to Lobatse on the 20th, Palapye on the 27th and finally Maun on March 28th.

Thato Mosasi, who has entered several beauty pageants before, revealed she will try her luck because since she graduated in 2012 she has never worked. “I have always had business concepts in mind but money has been a problem. I have a bachelor’s degree but up to now I don’t have a job, so I hope this pageant will help me” she said.
