Shaw retains Strongest Man title for the 4th time

USA’s Brian Shaw has retained the World Strongest Man title for the consecutive year. Shaw was crowned at the end of a 10-day competition that was hosted in Kasane, Botswana for the first time. In second place was Botswana’s favourite competitor Hafthor Bjornsson whom they nicknamed Shumba, meaning a lion. Shumba won the hearts of Batswana because despite being the Hollywood star from the Game of Thrones series, he took pictures and mingled with his admirers more than any other athlete that came to take part.

The athlete from Iceland, who came with his family, revealed that with the love that he has got from Botswana, he would be coming back on a holiday. Matthias Licis of the USA who was also in the top 10 also vowed to come back to Botswana because of the heartwarming reception they got. “There is no reason not to come back to Botswana and explore this beautiful country and the beautiful people here. This has been a very incredible journey,” he said.  Mike Hall from the United Kingdom got position three and equally expressed excitement about Botswana.

Botswana Tourism Organisation’s spokesman, Samuel Lephalo, said with the excitement that is on everyone, they will not be surprised if the competition comes back to Botswana next year. The show will air first in United States of America and United Kingdom before it is sold to many countries around the world. In Botswana it is expected to air as from December through Super sport and many other channels that will buy it.
