The annual edition of the trendy Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMAS) will be held on December 10, 2016 at the GICC. Yarona FM Station Manager Kelly Ramputswa said they aim to continue building the entertainment industry in Botswana, through YAMAs to enhance quality of local music and create exposure on local artists. She said they are proud to have played a role in developing the industry and are enthusiastic about the music’s growth for years to come. Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture Peter Choto said they are proud with the contribution that Yarona Fm is making on the local artists. He said that they recognise that the awards celebrate excellence, creativity, innovation and development. “While the awards do reward individual talent, they are a celebration of the strength and robustness of Botswana’s music industry as a whole, demonstrating our abilities as artists,” he said. Choto said the country has come a long way and every year marks growth and maturity. He said they also appreciate the station for being one of the first private stations to agree to play 90% local music for the month of September. “I applaud you so much for contributing immensely to local artists success like MMP Family, Licky, Gaone, Bang Gae and B-Block to mention but a few,” he said. Some of the nominated artists in different categories are Amantle Brown, Ban T, Mosako and Han C.
