Danceline Studios hosted a ‘dance up’ night at the University of Botswana recently to raise funds for a trip they are preparing to take to Cape Town to participate in the South African Dance Championships (SADF). The championship will feature participants from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Lesotho and Swaziland including South Africa. The Dance Studio thrilled dance lovers to great Ballroom dance and sexy moves. They also raised awareness to Batswana about Latin American Dance. Spokesperson Kegakgametse Sedumedi said even though they managed to raise little funds from the dance night, they do need help to fund 10 couples to compete in Cape Town. “We are self-sponsored so we have been really struggling to get enough money to be able to send all our teams to the competition, and that is why we need help because these people here are capable,” he said. Sedumedi said dance is their passion and they believe that they are the right people to take it forward in Botswana. “Whenever anyone gets on stage they always prove their versatility and the talent in Botswana especially in dances like cha-cha-cha and samba,” he said.
