Maun will host its inaugural Colour Run on December 17, 2016. The 5km fun race is not only popular in Botswana but in the rest of the world. The unique event involves participants of all abilities and ages being doused from head to toe with coloured powder while they sprint, jog or walk the 5km route. The race has already been held twice in Gaborone and Francistown. The organisers of the event always highlight that the rainbow is all about fun and as such there is no competitive atmosphere, no recorded time, no age restrictions and all that matters being that participants enjoy themselves. The winner is the one who will have the most fun. Event Coordinator Audrey Leshiba said they are very excited about the race in Maun and want people to unite and take part in the magical journey of colour. “Some call it happiness, some call it magic but we call it Maun Colour Run and its coming to Maun for the 1st time,” he said. He said that they have decided to go to Maun after the success of the Francistown Colour Run and with colour runners requesting that it comes to Maun.
It will be hosted at the Country Farm. There will be a 5km run, colour festival and after party. Leshiba said they want people of all ages to come together because the whole purpose of the event is to bring people together, promote a healthy lifestyle while also at the same time raising money for charity. Lady Khama Charitable Trust has been identified to be the beneficiary. He said they are very excited because early bird tickets are going on well with buyers getting a free t-shirt and a headband for only P120 while it is P50 for kids and a playground will be provided for them. He said with Maun being a tourist destination and one of the places that is known as the entertainment capital they are seeing a huge buzz about the event. The event will start at 730 in the morning until late and then there will be the glow after party which is expected to have local DJs.
