The luxury designer couple

It is rare for couples to work together. When that happens usually, they do not share the same office. All is different with Candida and Wedu Montsho who recently got married. Since they worked together even before tying the knot theirs is an easy no hassles partnership. The duo of Dihdah Creations has made a name for itself in the local creative industry. They are part of one of the biggest fashion shows in the country – Masa Fashion Show – as mentors. Candida describes herself as God fearing woman who is passionate about her dream and hard worker who always shows her emotional side. Wedu describes himself as an introvert and goal orientated. Candida says they are fashion entrepreneurs. “At the moment we work for our business which is called Dihdah and Nick Black by Dihdah. We make clothes and clothes accessories as well. We are able to make all designer fabrics and accessories even ties and lapels,” she says. The brand Dihdah is a luxury fashion label which was established in early 2014 – as an all-women brand. As partners they continued to work on it and they realised that there was a need for luxury male clothing, and that was when they launched another brand Nick Black by Dihdah to that caters only for men and their luxurious clothing. In 2014 they worked with Miss Botswana team, and started working with Masa Fashion Show which has instantly transformed them into household designer brands in the country. “We also do a lot of bridal party clothing and that is something we are very good at and we might end up opening a bridal store because there is demand for that,” she says.

Over the past years their growth has been tremendous, sharing the stage with international brands designers. Their vision is to make sure that Dihdah becomes the Gucci of Botswana, and have branches even outside Africa to compete internationally. Candida said their journey in the industry started when they were still in tertiary with Wedu studying Accounting while she pursued a Fashion degree. When they finished they decided to open Dihdah. Wedu learned the ropes from observing Candida designing clothes. “I used to watch her do things and I learned. Now that is one thing that we get excited about and wake up to go and do,” he says. What is also interesting about the couple is that even though Candida is the one that went to school to study fashion, it is Wedu who is behind the creative aspect of the brand and a lot of decisions are influenced by him. “It is now that people are seeing that there is a man behind Dihdah and they have no idea that the success of this brand is on him,” she declares. Candida considers herself to be the nice one while Wedu is the mean one. To the outer world they know they might be boring because they are always in the house. When it comes to food Wedu is the one that likes to explore in the kitchen. For this couple their life is fulfilled by designing beautiful garments, eating nice food, going to church and just being home when all is done.
