I am Kristan Mmusi aged 40.I usually like to break down my age into two parts; 21 years young with 19 years of life experience .I work as a Principal Public Relations Officer at Ministry of Sports Youth & Culture (MYSC) .I am from Goo-Tau village in the Tswapong North.
DJ LEXY J: I’d like to know your relationship with music, when did the love begin? How far back can you remember?
MMUSI: My love for music started when I was very young. I used to listen to Michael Jackson and Madonna. I often used a spoon pretending it was a microphone…I would go on to sing their songs; Thriller or The Way You Make Me Feel and Like a Virgin or Cherish respectively.
DJ LEXY J: What kind of music do you love and how often do you indulge yourself?
MMUSI: I love any kind of music as long as it makes me dance like crazy. Yes, I am a great dancer. I should have been a choreographer but I will leave that to my brothers and sisters who aren’t shy shem. I am very shy and most people don’t know that…. Ha ha ha.
DJ LEXY J: How has music influenced your life over the years?
MMUSI: Music always calms my nerves, especially when I feel depressed. Nothing does it for me like a good song with a great message. Growing up Madonna and Janet Jackson were my favourite artists.
DJ LEXY J: Does the music you listen to now differ from what you listened to growing up?
MMUSI: A lot has changed since then. We now have house music and all kinds of new stuff. Before, we had Disco, Funk, Di-gong and Pantsula. Today, we rock to house music, deep house (have no idea what the difference is) and all kinds of noise pollution that you can think of.
DJ LEXY J: Can you think of any particular music/song that you associate a memory, mood, or place with?
MMUSI: I always play Mariah Carey’s Every Time You Need a Friend because it brings back memories from my high school days at Lotsane Senior School (1993) when I used to have a huge crush on this teacher. #hiding. Yes, we all had a huge crush on some teacher during our high school days… ao!
DJ LEXY J: What is your all-time favourite song(s)?
MMUSI: Madonna- Cherish; Janet Jackson- Let’s Wait a While; and Mariah Carey- Hero.
DJ LEXY J: Who is your all-time favourite Artist, and why?
MMUSI: Mariah Carey – She is a DIVA and knows what she wants and how she wants it. I admire her business acumen as a woman and for being a great vocalist of all time.
DJ LEXY J: What’s on your playlist and how do you choose the music that goes onto it?
MMUSI: Depends on my mood since I said I love anything that can make me dance even while driving. Drivers often think I am’ coo coo’ because I dance and singing alone in the car while in traffic. Note: I cannot sing to save my life although I went through high school as one of the ‘best’ lip synch performers at Lotsane Senior School. Most of the kids actually thought I could sing… Shem.. Ha ha ha ha.
DJ LEXY J: So long, have yourself a super duper day
MMUSI: Thank you Lexy J. Have a great one yourself.
