AN AFFAIR WITH MUSIC; DJ Lexy J engages Boitshwarelo Lebang

Hello Lexy J! My name is Boitshwarelo Lebang, Head of Corporate Affairs and Strategy at Botswana Development Corporation, Brand architect, as well as an Image and Lifestyle Coach. I was raised here in Gaborone and hail from an incredible village, Molepolole. Let’s just say I am in my 30s lol!

DJ LEXY J: I’d like to know your relationship with music, when did the love begin? How far back can you remember?

LEBANG: My journey with music spans what seems like a lifetime. I grew up listening to music. My parents always played music at home and today I still love some of the songs, especially the heartfelt ones that told stories. My relationship with music certainly got a lot more solidified and became deeper when I started working on radio as a free-lance presenter. Radio made me appreciate the true power of music and how it impacts the lives of many individuals. Nostalgia hitting as I reminisce on “The Gabzfm Nights of Pleasure”.

DJ LEXY J: What kind of music do you love and how often do you indulge yourself?

LEBANG: My love for music cuts across many genres.  Melodic & lyric-intensive.  I believe that every song is a story or a poem told through music.

DJ LEXY J: How has music influenced your life over the years?

LEBANG: Music inspires, enhances, broadens horizons, soothes, excites, brings joy and makes sad days more tolerable, makes special days the best days of our lives… Music can be serious, mischievous, create frivolity or just plain silliness… and it has certainly touched me in all the above ways and more…Music gives life colour… it has coloured mine in many shades and boy do I love colour!

DJ LEXY J: Does the music you listen to now differ from what you listened to growing up?

LEBANG: There is a slight change yes and as I have mentioned before, life is dynamic and we move with trends. I sometimes find myself listening and dwelling much on to the now trending songs but I certainly have my absolute loved classics.

DJ LEXY J: Can you think of any particular music/song that you associate a memory, mood, or place with?

LEBANG: Dobbie Gray – “Loving arms” from my long awesome A1 road trips with my dad when I was growing up for sure!

DJ LEXY J: What is your all-time favourite song(s)?

LEBANG: I have just too many to try make a pick because my taste is eclectic and I tend to just love songs endlessly, so they keep piling!

DJ LEXY J: What’s on your playlist and how do you choose the music that goes onto it?

LEBANG: My current playlist is loaded with mixes and it’s only because with a mix I don’t get to select a new song after every 3 minutes, especially when driving, I just let songs play. DJ LEXY J: So long, have yourself a super-duper day!!
