GIMC fever is upon us

Fish Pabalinga has worked very hard to grow the Gaborone International Music Festival (GIMC) brand – no wonder many are always looking forward to the festival every year.  This year the event starts end of August and will culminate with a massive festival at the National Stadium on September 2, 2017. Some of the artists that will perform in the series include Cassper Nyovest, Ricky Rick, Prince Kaybee, Mafikizolo, Team Distant, MMP Family, Veezo View, Mozaik the Producer and Pro Turliban Gang. Pabalinga has revealed that artists that are coming from overseas have already started arriving so as to be able to settle well before their shows. As usual a workshop will precede the event to enables local artists to be able to learn from international artists. The free workshop at the GICC on August 22 will be conducted by Kirk Whalum, Jonathan Butler, Elemotho, a representative from Stanbic Bank, Zenzele Hirschfield and Ministry of Trade. Some of the artists like Kirk Whalum have already released videos sharing about their excitement about coming to Botswana He said he can’t wait to play alongside Jonathan Butler and on the 26th of August he will do a meet and greet at the Musica store in Riverwalk from 11am to 1pm. Another event that will take place is the theatre which will take place on the 29th August headlined by Mophato Dance Theatre. August 30 will see a night of poetry at Botswana Craft featuring some of the finest poets in TJ Dema, Barolong Seboni, Morea Motsamai, Mama Kay, Poetess Phopho, Thato Chuma and Phodiso Modirwa. The jazz festival is one of the most anticipated events where apart from Kirk Whalum and Jonathan Butler sharing the stage there will be Amantle Brown, Elemotho, Lorraine Lionheart, Phillip Mate, Jazz Man and Sino’s Delux who are all sensations in their own right. Choral music festival will take place on August 31 featuring Mowana Singers, Voices in Harmony, Gaborone Philharmonic and Corpus Christi Catholic Choir. The much loved Nigerian comedian Mr Ibu will headline the comedy show on September 1 at Ba Isago University. He will perform alongside the likes of Tips Shampoo, Mawee, Phenyo the Master, Zozo Kgafela, Thapelo Malani and Funny Man. GIMC has been recognised as one of the best music festivals in the world by bee-hype.
