I am Cassius Biki Mmopelwa, a 46-year-old male from the north of Botswana. My hometown is Francistown. I work for City & Guilds as Botswana Country Manager.
DJ LEXY J: I’d like to know your relationship with music, when did the love begin? How far back can you remember?
MMOPELWA: My love for music started way back at the age of 10 in 1981.This was the era of the famous ‘Gumba Gumba’ parties. These were common in town and everyone loved them.
DJ LEXY J: What kind of music do you love and how often do you indulge yourself?
MMOPELWA: I love a variety of music including RnB, Soul and House Music. I often indulge during weekends when relaxing at home or travelling to the cattle post. You see my DJ, music has a way of talking to the soul. For me, any journey I embark on requires a fully loaded shuttle which will accompany me while driving.
DJ LEXY J: How has music influenced your life over the years?
MMOPELWA: Music has influenced my life positively as every mood requires music. If one is down and moody, music may lift the spirits and if one is happy, music is used to celebrate.
DJ LEXY J: Does the music you listen to now differ from what you listened to growing up?
MMOPELWA: Yes, when I was growing up I listened to a lot of mbaqanga and South African disco as compared to modern music influenced by the western compilations and productions.
DJ LEXY J: Can you think of any particular music/song that you associate a memory, mood, or place with?
MMOPELWA: Most of the songs that are dedicated to mothers tend to bring flashbacks and memories of my life with my late mother (MHSRIP). I can single out John Lennon- Mother, Boyz 2 Men – A song for Mama and 2Pac – Dear Mama.
DJ LEXY J: What is your all-time favourite song(s)?
MMOPELWA: Best of Keith Sweat (collection); R-Kelly (Collections); and Mary J. Blige Top Ten Songs Ever (Collection).
DJ LEXY J: Who is your all-time favourite Artist, and why?
MMOPELWA: It is difficult to choose between two big legends Keith Sweat and R-Kelly due to their similarity in music styles. I guess it’s safe to say I love both of them
DJ LEXY J: What’s on your playlist and how do you choose the music that goes onto it?
MMOPELWA: I would have a variety particularly classic RnB, House and Hip-hop because it brings the good olden days’ memories back.
DJ LEXY J: So long, have yourself a super duper day!
MMOPELWA: You too have an awesome one DJ Lexy J.
