For the first time ever, a Mrs Botswana pageant was held last week in Gaborone where Masego Motlhasedi emerged as the fairest of them all. She will represent Botswana at an international pageant in China. With so many activities that led to the final day, Motlhasedi couldn’t be happier as she was crowned the fairest with her husband giving her full support. He even expressed his excitement about the wife winning because after all she did something that made her happy, especially having been the pillar of their house and supporting the family after he lost his due to the BCL mine closure. The proud husband couldn’t stop giggling as he looked at his dazzling wife who also expressed her excitement in being the first Motswana to clinch the Mrs Botswana crown. “This gives me the opportunity to go and represent Botswana in China and that is an exciting moment and all this has been quite an incredible journey,” she said. The organiser of the event said she decided to come up with the idea of the event after realising that there were no family orientated events in the city, and also to help influence the sanctity of marriage looking at the challenges that many face in their homes. She said through the pageant women were able to come together, bond and even share the challenges about the things that they go through, and the support that they have from their spouses and kids. “This could be seen even on the final day where the husbands came with their kids to support their mothers. It was quite a very proud moment for all and even those who did not win appreciated what they learnt throughout the journey,” she said.
