Lulu Rasebotsa, aged 46 is the Managing Director of Liberty Life Botswana, a specialist life insurance company which focuses on providing group based and individual risk insurance products for death, disability, critical illness and other life changing events. Her job is to make a difference in people’s lives by making their financial freedom possible. DJ LEXY J: I’d like to know your relationship with music, when did the love begin? How far back can you remember?
RASEBOTSA: My love for music dates back as far as the late 70s early 80s. This was largely influenced by my mother (still to be seen on the dance floor) and my elder brother.
DJ LEXY J: What kind of music do you love and how often do you indulge yourself?
RASEBOTSA: My taste is very diverse, often times. Any beat of a song that makes sense will definitely get my attention because I will listen to it. Occasionally it could be the lyrics that capture me especially Gospel music and Love songs, the irony is, I suck in the romance department.
DJ LEXY J: How has music influenced your life over the years?
RASEBOTSA: My love for music landed me a job at RB2 in it’s formative years (something that some may not know). Back then I was called “DJ Max” and I did the Sunday evening set, pretty similar to what Tshepo Maphanyane does on Gabz FM every Sunday. Music is always able to lift my spirits even at my lowest moments.
DJ LEXY J: Does the music you listen to now differ from what you listened to growing up?
RASEBOTSA: I wouldn’t necessarily say it differs, but rather that I have kept up with new trends. Every minute every hour new music is produced. What I listen to now is largely influenced by my 24 year old son better known as “DJ Teddy” and my daughter Yaana, 14 years of age.
DJ LEXY J: Can you think of any particular music/song that you associate a memory, mood, or place with?
RASEBOTSA: There are a number of songs which bring back memories, good and bad. One in particular is “Can’t give up now” by Mary Mar. It clearly stands out. (No further details regarding it, let’s leave it at that)
DJ LEXY J: What is your all-time favourite song(s)?
RASEBOTSA: Dance tonight - Lucy Pearl; Eye to eye – Chaka Khan; Body – Chantey Savage
DJ LEXY J: Who is your all-time favourite Artist, and why?
Rasebotsa: Favourite artist….no. I love a number of them for various reasons so I would not like to choose one.
DJ LEXY J: What’s on your playlist and how do you choose the music that goes onto it?
RASEBOTSA: I actually listen to a single artist at a go. In fact, I can be caught at times having placed a song on repeat. I generally love happy songs and when I am alone in the car I sing along.... by the way, I can’t sing to save my life.
DJ LEXY J: So long, have yourself a super duper day!!
RASEBOTSA: Thank you, you too.
