NOW goes live

After a long wait Botswana Television has finally launched the long waited youth station dubbed NOW. This was launched by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development Thapelo Olopeng at Molapo Piazza in Gaborone recently. He hailed the launch of the television station as a milestone for them because that is a way of empowering Batswana, especially those in the creative industry. “This is an opportunity for the young people to showcase their talent, therefore we are empowering them even further because majority of them are unemployed,” he said, assuring the young people that filled up the piazza that the moment is now for them to show their skills. They started the project with a budget of P10 million, and now over 48 companies have submitted content. He said this will be connected through a set top box, and the service will also be receivable online. He said they will explore other possible devices in the future. Assistant Minister Kefentse Mzwinila thanked all who contributed in making the launch a success. He urged young people to take space in marketing, advertising and many other fields in television production while also looking for long-term developments and media ownership.
