A set of road safety events will be held at Game City Upstairs Parking Lot on May 24-27, 2018.

The concept is brought about by Design Surgery in partnership with the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) under the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The Expo – the first and only annual road safety Expo for road users – will have a series of events that will be designed to put the message across and sensitise the public.

One of the organisers of the event Thabani Nyathi said they will deliver important ideas and concepts in five key areas that affect everyone in the private sector and public sector, youth, organisational and planning aspects of the road usage for Botswana and the sub region and the importance of design and technology to drive innovation.

Thabani said research show that even though road safety campaigns have been implemented in the past by different stakeholders there haven’t collectively addressed emerging trends, new challenges, road usage and paradigm shifts..

He said the event has attracted car dealers, law makers, healthcare practitioners, infrastructure designers, insurance companies, road safety technology suppliers, motorbikes, cyclists and many people that are involved in road use and its consequences.

“Technology companies and many others will meet, network, debate and discuss key issues in the road transport safety industry because our primary mandate is to reduce crashes in Botswana guided by the United Nations decade of Action 2011-2020 pillars which are vehicle safety, infrastructure, road user behavior, road safety management and post-crash care,” he said.

He said the event will definitely have an all-encompassing approach including bike shows, junior traffic school, exhibition; beauty for road safety which will be done through a beauty contest, debates and many entertainment sessions. He said that they want to reach as many people as they can.

The Managing Direct of Design Surgery Tebogo Sekgee said their objectives are to reduce road accidents and road fatalities, save and boost the economy, save lives and create and develop awareness on responsible driving and safe road usage. He called on companies to continue coming forward to take part.
