GeeGee Straus is a 21-year-old model, brand and fashion influencer, aspiring all-rounded entertainer, a student and a go-getter who does not conform.
One of his campaigns that shattered the norm is the #BoysInSkirts movement which has been broadly embraced. He set a trend for himself and for the world with his boldness that is like no other. He effortlessly dismantles hyper masculinity. He is quite daring in whatever piece of clothing that he wears, and that is because he does what makes him feel good not what will make people happy.
He is a full time Chinese Studies student at the University of Botswana. He said having grown up dealing with a lot of issues made him take a bold step towards making a difference in his life and being a pioneer of change.
“I am my work and my work is I. I have come quite a long way with dealing with issues of confidence growing up, so when I finally had the chance to express myself through my work, I never looked back,” he said.
GeeGee has promised himself never settle for less or accept mediocrity. He believes that he is the best at what he does.
He aims to put Botswana on the global map by putting out work that is viable to compete on a global scale.
Issues of sexuality have inspired him to rise to the very top. According to him sexuality in simpler terms, is how one expresses themselves in terms of their sexual orientation. “I think one thing that has given me so much courage to continue being who I am is that, I was born a fighter. I literally fight my way through each and every day of my life because we live in a world that is somewhat cruel to the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) community. A lot of us have grown to have thick skin because of bad past experiences for being who we are and this is why majority of the community works hard to better our lives because we are in a way in my opinion trying to move away from such bad environments that we have grown in and endured,” he said.
One person who has played an incredible role in his life is his grandmother – his pillar of strength. In terms of his work he looks up to the late Audrey Hepburn who played an incredible role in the upcoming of his brand.
He wants his work to live beyond his death. His fashion sense makes him stand out quite a lot whenever he wants to without having to answer to anyone about his life. He is aware that people often judge him by how he looks and his way of life. That does not bother him at all because his grandmother taught him to respect all elders.
Just like any human being his aspirations are to be happy and to be content with his life. “I don’t like sharing my future endeavors but all I can tell you is I am literally coming for every single wig and scalp out there,” he said.
