He is one of the finest artists to ever come out of Botswana. Within a short time Motlha Mompe has catapulted to the very top of the local music industry. It took the release of his hit single Mma Motse to win admiration from local and international music followers. He has enjoyed vast airplay in local and South African radio stations.
Molapo Piazza will on May 26 host ‘One Night with Motlha’ event, where the artist will be performing live and launching his 12-track album.
The young man who sings Afro jazz and R&B in Setswana is under the management of Roc Lefatshe stable.
He is the winner of My Star 2015 and upon realising his potential, Roc Lefatshe CEO Theo Karate took him under his wing to mentor and guide him.
Karate said they worked hard to be where they are, and appreciate all the support they got along the way.
Motlha has recorded with artists around the region, including from countries like Lesotho, Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
Karate is happy that in the short time that Motlha has been in the industry many companies and individuals want to be associated with him.
“You will never get to see an event like the one that we will have on May 26. This is going to be crazy because even many major labels from South Africa want to sign this young man,” he said. Their aim with the South African partners is to make sure that Motlha becomes the first artist from Botswana to sell gold in South Africa; something that they are all confident of.
As proof of his lyrical prowess, Motlha wrote one of the leading local female singers Slizer’s latest 12-track album titled Ga Kena Molato.
Motlha is very happy about the support that many Batswana have been giving him.
“I love performing; I love singing and I am happy that I have been given this opportunity to perform for Batswana as a newbie as I am, and that can only mean that greater things are coming my way. I will make sure that I do not disappoint everyone who believes in me,” he said.
Events Manager for Stanbic Piazza Kgosi Goodwill said became interested in Motlha upon hearing local veteran artist Charma Girl talking about him on radio, and they later agreed to host him because of the incredible talent that he has.
“We are not promoters and that is why we partnered with Medumo Entertainment in order to make sure that this is perfectly brought to live here in Stanbic Piazza and we are happy that the local artist will be headlining and having international acts as his supporting acts, how cool is that,” he said. Some of the artists that will be performing alongside Motlha are South Africa’s talented group in Soul Kulture, Mophato Dance Group, Lyonel Siwela from Zimbabwe and DJ Sid.
