Have you ever realised that what you scroll through online or flick through the TV channels almost looks the same and people are making same things. Nothing ever really seems new or innovative in fashion today.
A lot of designers have reformed and redesigned themselves into the latest trend of being more street than ever. Celebrities, clients and collaborators are now leading and dictating what fashion is. The industry has given them that power. Somehow fashion stopped being fashion, but a mirror of pop culture of the western world and inspired the rest of the world to follow.
The reason that this has happened is because fashion has become about sales and not the art. Every celebrity and trend pushes sales which depletes the focus on the craft of the garment. When it becomes about numbers, the element of a once colourful and forward industry turns limited and defined. Boundaries are set and now designers/ major fashion houses have to play by the ‘successful sales’ rule book.
Celebrities and customers have realised that power as the population of stylists, designers, bloggers, photographers and creative directors is increasing daily. The market is saturated with the same things making fashion as whole less desirable daily. It is in need of change and redirection.
The best part of this time is that the Goddess of fashion herself is begging for a revolution, begging for a refocus on the soul of fashion. This is the time for a major designer or brand to try redirect the flow.
The era of ‘you don’t need talent’ is coming to an end as it is the talentless that will fall first and these brands will slowly fail. They will not be able to adapt and grow in the future. The new praise and celebration will be for the talented, innovative, daring and authentic. Only quality and originality will survive.
