YARONA invades Ghetto

It is an open secret that the Francistown night life leaves a lot to be desired in the form of quality and options, and only once in a ‘blue moon’ does the city come to life in a scintillating entertainment option. Last Friday Yarona FM brought the station to the people of Francistown, to involve them in their 18th birthday celebrations. As the cliché goes ‘fortune favors the bold’. Serendipity was clearly at play with the popular radio station; initially they had planned to orchestrate a campus invasion at the Francistown Botho university, but because of certain aspects, this was not possible. Quick tactical thinking shifted the initial launch venue from the Botho university campus, to the more central location of Galo mall. This was favor befalling the Yarona f.m team, firstly because of Galo mall’s close proximity to several residential areas around Francistown, thus making it a prime location for an activation. Secondly adjacent to Galo mall is the fairly new Botswana Accountancy College campus. These students form a large volume of traffic crossing the street from their campus over to the shops in the mall or enroute to the taxi rank to the catch transport home; Either, or, this ‘chance outcome’ of events, with the Yarona f.m campus invasion intended for Botho university shifting to Galo mall was quite favorable as the young urban residents like the B.A.C students, would be the ideal target audience for the youthful radio station. This fact, coupled with the reality that Galo mall attracts relatively the largest population of Francistowner’s and people from it’s outskirts, more than any other mall in the city, played in favor of Yarona f.m’s birthday celebration launch. That this Birthday Tour came to Francistown at this time, further adds to the element of ‘chance’ and favor that seemed to ‘enshroud’ the radio station’s Birthday Tour, Francistown invasion. On the 4th of August, the city of Francistown hosted, under the mandate of the Botswana National Youth Council, the ‘International Youth Day’, with it’s theme being ‘Safe Space for Youth’. That the Yarona f.m Birthday Tour : Francistown Invasion would occur in the same month as this ostentatious event targeted towards the youth, and Yarona f.m, a youthful radio station, celebrating 18 years, years that would still put them in the ‘Youth’ criteria, if they were not inanimate – all this clearly indicated a semblance of ‘an alignment in the stars.’ Scores of passerby’s were mesmerized as well as in awe of the the radio personalities of Yarona f.m, whom they only interacted with over the airwaves. Putting a face to the voice, was what the ‘Birthday Tour’ allowed the Yarona f.m’s loyal listeners the pleasure of enjoying, as well as seeing their favorite radio personalities, or at least those who were part of the ‘Birthday Tour’: Francistown Invasion. The youthful radio stations ‘invasion’ of Francistown was two-fold, and not just limited to the Galo mall set up. The ‘icing on the cake’ was the Yarona f.m ‘Birthday Tour’ team taking over the popular, local night club, named Lizard Entertainment. An ensemble of Disc Jockey’s took to the deck’s, playing tunes that titillated the crowd, with each D.J moving the revelers at the night club with their own signature D.J’ing style and speciality in music genre. The ‘coup de grace’ which allowed the Yarona f.m team to ‘execute’ their mandate of celebrating their 18th Birthday Tour with Francistowner’s to the Max was when national rapping sensation, Bangu took to the stage. This hugely talented lyricist, who masters ‘spitting’ verses in the local dialect of a large part of the Northern region of Botswana, iKalanga. As iKalanga is the unofficial lingua franca of Francistown, the crowd was enthralled by the iKalanga rap songs ‘belted’ out by Bangu, as they strongly resonated with them – master stroke by the Yarona f.m team , bringing an artist whom the general population of Francistown could greatly identify with and judging from the reaction of the crowd, Bangu may soon enjoy ‘cult status’ in the ‘City of all things Precious’. In any business, strategic partnering is quintessential, as it may quantum leap the business interests of both business partners, whilst the service they provide allows for both partners to enjoy a relationship both entities benefit from symbiotically. Yarona f.m’s Birthday Invasion saw them engage in what can be considered as responsible Strategic Partnering. In the advent of an era that of late is seeing a spike in Sexually Transmitted Diseases, H.I.V infection and a worrisome rate of unplanned pregnancies, especially amongst the youth; it was reassuring to see the condom company E.S.P condom freely distributing prophylactics at the night club event Yarona f.m was hosting. Taking into consideration the ‘night life culture’, with copious amounts of alcohol consumption and inhibitions being undermined a lot in this atmosphere, a lot of sexual engagement takes place after couples have left the club. This makes it a ‘life and death’ matter to provide safe-sex solutions at such places of entertainment, and thus Yarona f.m and E.S.P Condoms responsible strategic partnering goes a long way in making the quest for zero transmissions a reality and curbing the spread of S.T.I’s and H.I.V . Overall, the Yarona f.m’s 18th Birthday Tour : Francistown Invasion was, as aforementioned, one of those rare moments the ‘night life’ of the ‘city of All things Precious’ offers an exciting pleasant and extremely enjoyable experience.
