Summer is creeping in and not only do we change the clothes in the closet, but the shoes too. Just like the fashion industry, the footwear industry is booming with different and innovative designs every day. Do you know which type and style is for you?
People tend to only care and cater for the outfit and forget that the shoes they wear play a huge role in pulling the whole look together. A bad pair can easily destroy any outfit you were trying to put together. So how does one know what to choose and how to coordinate? There are 3 important things to consider when selecting the perfect shoe: Comfort, style and function.
We can have as many pairs as we want in our closet, but we only end up over using 3 pairs through the course of a long period of time. Shoes can reveal just as much as an outfit. Heels are usually reserved for corporate employees and special occasions. It is rare and would be considered ridiculous for a street vendor to wear a pair of 12 inch Louboutins, as it is inconvenient for the average street vendor.
The most important aspect of a shoe is its comfort then function and then design. Shoes need to be comfortable to be consistently used. In 2018, the running shoe or sneaker is the trendiest and sought after. They are sufficient as they allow you to move throughout the day and to places without problems, but its design is not compatible with all occasions and outfits. You cannot wear running shoes to an office as they are too casual.
To pick the best shoe you need to look at the routine of your average day, consider the places you go to, the types of garments you own and the people you meet. Wearing sandals knowing you walk through gravel roads is never ideal as your feet become dusty, so a closed shoe is best. If you are in board meetings all day and engaging with important clients then something aesthetically pleasing would suffice.
There's nothing wrong with carrying a second pair of shoes in your bag or boot of the car, especially if you are in heels all day. This just shows you the importance of comfort. Crocs are one of the most successful shoe brands to date. Many can agree that they are an eye sore, but people use them and serve a purpose for that customer.
One more suggestion is to keep it simple. Choose black and white pairs and brown pair or two won’t hurt. This way it makes it much easier for you to match your outfit of the day.
