In efforts to showcase local talent and develop young people in choral and classical music, the Andante Chorus will perform a work by a renowned local composer, Luka Disho, on Saturday 1st September 2018 at Westwood theatre in the evening. The Mass, which is a Catholic Church service, will comprise six songs –the first time it is performed locally.
The choir will serenade choral music lovers with songs like Kyrie, Benedictus which – according to the choir Executive Secretary Mmabatho Morewatlala – will be accompanied by a piano.
As a way of adding quality to the music and ensuring the audience eats from their melodious voices the choir has roped in a prominent tenor soloist from South Africa, Kwakhanya Steve Mavuka, who is a member of the Ancora Classical Pop group. According to Morewatlala, Mavuka has performed various opera works across the world including in Sweden, Finland, Mauritius, Seychelles, Japan in most of European countries. Andante choir, which originates from Ramotswa, has taken part in different competitions in Botswana and South Africa.
“We have been crowned the best choral choir for the third consecutive year in the annual Presidential Competitions. We also performed during the inauguration of President Mokgweetsi Masisi this year,” she said.
Morewatlala said they recently performed during the 49th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association regional conference, the 6th Summit of the SACU Heads of State and the President’s Arts Exhibition.
