Boitumelo Foundation beats P1m target

First Lady hails its achievement; caring spirit

Duma FM sport grounds was the place to be on Saturday – August 25 – as Boitumelo Foundation notched up yet another success in its short history.

Through Boitumelo Benefit Concert, they exceeded their P1m fund raising target with multitudes having turned up for the show.

Founded in 2016 by serial entrepreneur Ramachandran Ottapathu – CEO of retail giant Choppies – the foundation supports education and health related initiatives across Botswana.

Happy at the outcome and attendance of the Concert, Ottapathu was upbeat about the future and the contribution his foundation is making.

"We are currently working with organisations such as AAP Home-based Health care and the Masiela Trust to support orphans and vulnerable children in settlement areas in Kgalagadi and Kweneng. We have also donated health equipment and lighting for school children through the Ministries of Health and the Ministry of Education and Skills Development," he said.

Among the guests were President Mokgweetsi Masisi and the First Lady Neo Masisi. The First Lady commended the Foundation for having set itself on the path of success in rendering support to the education and health sectors.

She said with 32.4 per cent of the national recurrent budget allocated to health and education sectors; these remain key priorities of Government. “Government is to provide an enabling environment whereby all people living in Botswana have the opportunity to achieve and maintain the highest level of health and wellbeing,” she said.

This, she said, was also in line the Sustainable Development Goal 3, which seeks to ensure healthy lives. She hailed the Foundation for achieving its P1 million target through the concert and commended those who attended the event.

"It really doesn't matter what sphere we work in, it is our duty to make contribution for the betterment of Botswana," she said,
