Donates Christmas hampers to less fortunate
The infectious bug of giving has bitten the Boitumelo Foundation, prompting it to donate P500 000.00 to Happy Hearts; children cancer rehabilitation centre.
Boitumelo Foundation chairman Ramachandran Ottapathu said the funds will go a long way in ensuring that pediatric cancer patients get better care and treatment. The funds will go towards building a house where cancer patients from outside Gaborone will have an intermediary place to stay whilst going for their treatments.
Happy Hearts Convenor Melissa Kadzirange said she was especially grateful for the donation as it would help towards the over P3 million budget for the facility.
“We are also doing on our part some fundraising activities to add on to what we get from donors such as Boitumelo Foundation,” she said, adding that there is still a long way to go and a lot of help needed going forward.
Another recipient is writer Onica Lenkutwane who got a sponsorship of 35 000 printed copies of her children’s book titled ‘My Body Belongs to Me’. Being the author of Rati Books, Lenkutwane’s chance encounter with the Boitumelo Foundation was facilitated through the organisation’s ties with UNICEF and the books will be distributed to the fund’s identified schools and organisations.
The books, of which 16 600 are printed in Setswana while 13 450 are in English, will be distributed to various NGOs.
Other beneficiaries include AAP Home-Based Care & Family Life programme, Masiela Trust Fund and Society of St Vincent de Paul Botswana, who got food hampers, children’s clothes as well as a Christmas lunch from the foundation.
