Christmas came early for the seven-year-old choral music choir – Botswana National Youth Choir. The choir received a P100 000.00 sponsorship cheque from Bokomo Botswana.
Bokomo CEO, Werner De Beer, could not contain his excitement during the cheque presentation, saying his journey with the choir started when he joined Bokomo.
De Beer was especially ecstatic about the choir’s growth over the years.
“Our belief in the choir has seen it grow and being moved from the company’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) portfolio to being managed through the marketing department,” he revealed.
He also said the members of the choir are admitted on account of their studies to ensure that they understand the fundamentals of music. Through the sponsorship, Bokomo sponsors some members of the choir to enroll in musical instrument lessons that will contribute to the growth of their musical journey.
The choir’s oldest member, Archibald Gibbs, visibly excited about the sponsorship that saw the choir rebrand to become Bokomo Botswana National Youth Choir, said he was glad to be a part of the growing entity. “I have come to get very close to my choir mates and they are practically my family,” he beamed. Gibbs is the oldest member of the choir – being the only remaining member of the choir from the initial auditions when the choir was formed. He does not seem to have lost an ounce of energy towards his art.
He said his love for music is fuelled by the support he gets from his family who afford him the time to attend the once a week practice sessions that he has come to look forward to.
The teary-eyed Choir Conductor was lost for words but managed to share that the generous donation will go a long way in ensuring the smooth upkeep of the choir.
