In an effort to promote Jazz music genre in Botswana and turn the country into Jazz music destination of choice, Cresta has entered into a partnership with Jazz X Change.
The partnership deal was officially unveiled on Thursday. According to Cresta Lodge Gaborone Food and Beverage Manager Maatla Mmereki, the partnership is directed towards supporting Jazz X Change in fully meeting its mandate of promoting Jazz music locally.
He said Jazz X Change as will hosts its activities in Cresta venues in Gaborone and other Cresta places countrywide.
“Jazz X Change is doing quite well as far as the promotion of local musicians is concerned because the driver behind this concept Rahman El-Kindiy is committed to identifying talent and nurturing such into star musicians; hence the need for Cresta to support Jazz X Change without any doubt,” he added.
He said Cresta is keen on taking position in developing the creative arts sector which has reflected potential in diversifying the economy of the country consequently creating employment for the artists.
Rahman El- Kindiy, the founder of Jazz X Change, commended Cresta for supporting the initiative; adding that the utilisation of Cresta venues across the country will allow artists to market them extensively.
El-Kindiy anticipates that the Jazz X Change has done quite well since its inception in 2013 as it has groomed over 137 local musicians who are veterans and upcoming artists, saying they have hosted 37 shows to date.
“I am very much humbled by Cresta’s noble gesture of helping us to realise our mandate of promoting the local music sector by producing excellent quality musicians who can perform on the international stage,” he charged.
He said they will host the first ever Jazz Pel music festival on April 18 – an event that comprises of turning the gospel music into jazz rhythm with local artists performing.
Jazz X Change was established to educate, develop and better musicianship to give musicians the opportunity to experience live performances and learn how to entertain, manage themselves and to provide a platform for musicians to discover their potential.
