The founder of Craft Market Picnic, an entertainment and art exhibition market Tebogo Doline Maphane, says the event is aimed at promoting locally produced brands and artworks.
A number of various local manufactured crafts such as neckpieces, bangles, bags, paintings, drawings, food products and books will be exhibited and sold during Craft Market Picnic day.
Maphane in an interview said the inaugural event slated for 4th August will provide the local artists, manufacturers and their products to gain market traction for their services or goods.
She noted that in most instances the local craftsmen and women’s end products find it difficult to penetrate the market adding that craft market picnic serves as one stop business centre. “The event will empower local artists from quite number of artistic skills. It includes fashion designers, manufacturers of locally produced products. It is also family fun outing with a jam and market set-up whereby craft-makers will be selling their crafts, musicians and dancers also entertaining the attendees,” she emphasized.
Maphane further said they have been receiving a good number of bookings or enquiries from different craftsmanship showing interest to participate in the craft exhibition showpiece.
According to Maphane, she anticipates that resource permitting the craft market picnic is envisioned to be hosted after every 8 weeks. She is hopeful that interest in the local arts products will grow following the initiative. The event secured sponsorships from Planet Lodge, Sunday Standard, Sundex Bureau de Change, African Home and Duma FM respectively.
Revellers will have also the opportunity to interact with the craft-makers so as to appreciate or learn about the crafts with those interested in buying will be open to placing orders and purchasing at a time. The event will be held at Marabou Rocks picnic centre in Gaborone with tickets being sold at P 50 each is available Planet Lodge and African Home respectively.
