In an unexpected move, the MP for Goodhope/Mabule, James Mathokgwane, has resigned from Parliament barely six months after he was elected. A statement from the Speaker of Parliament, Gladys Kokorwe, confirmed the resignation; saying it was with immediate effect.
Mathokgwane, a member of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) under the Botswana National Front (BNF) ticket – was sworn in as an MP on October 30, 2014. He has served as a member of Portfolio Committees – Labour and Home Affairs, Health and HIV/AIDS, Governance and Oversight and SADC Parliamentary Forum. Attempts to get a comment from Mathokgwane were futile.
