The MP for Lobatse Sadique Kebonang has denied claims that he is about to resign from Parliament. The air has been thick with claims that he wanted to relinquish his parliamentary seat and take time to further his studies. He denied this on Tuesday afternoon.
“I take this to be mischief by those who are generating and spreading this. I am not resigning. In fact, I want to make it clear that I am enjoying what I am doing now,” he said. Kebonang said these claims started soon after the councillor for Boswelatlou, Kabelo Sebako, resigned citing personal reasons. He said he has had no reason to consider leaving Parliament and his cabinet position. Kebonang serves as Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry.
The allegations that he will leave gained speed after the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) won the Goodhope-Mabule by-election with some already confident that Kebonang’s departure will allow UDC to reclaim the seat. Kebonang defeated former MP for the area, Nehemiah Modubule, in last year’s General Elections.
