The Ministry of Transport and Communication in partnership with the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) will host the annual Aviation Pitso in Maun on Thursday.
The Pitso, which will officially be opened by the Minister of Transport and Communications Tshenolo Mabeo, provides a consultative forum that would deliberate on issues affecting the growth of the industry in order to come up with appropriate interventions.
This year’s Pitso will be held under the theme: Strategic Use of Aviation to Build a Robust Economy.
The theme highlights the importance of rethinking aviation and exploiting the industry’s potential to be a strong pillar of Botswana’s economy, which can bring prosperity and improve the livelihoods of all Batswana. In this increasingly competitive world, it is therefore critical for this year’s Pitso to interrogate pertinent issues dossing the industry’s growth.
The Pitso will also look at issues pertaining to the impact of aviation on economic growth and diversification in Botswana with the aim of strategically positioning the aviation industry as an economic powerhouse. Topics to be discussed will include: Updates on the 2014 Aviation Pitso resolutions; Enhancing stakeholder cooperation to grow the Aviation Industry in Botswana; Aviation as a market channel to Economic Development in Botswana; and Beyond 2016: Botswana’s aviation industry in the next Vision
The one-day event is expected to attract airline tour operators, consumers, policy makers, financial institutions and some government officials. The Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Oil Limited, Willie Mokgatlhe will give a keynote address.
