Statistics Botswana (SB) on Tuesday entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) with the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) as part of its strategy to strengthen collaboration between producers and users of statistics.
The MoU will serve to set out principles of collaboration between the HRDC and SB. Statistician General, Annah Majelantle, said the agreement comes at a time when the demand for data and information for decision making has reached an all-time high.
“Stakeholders are increasingly demanding accurate and timely information to guide interventions, policy formulation and monitoring,” said Majelantle. She said the Statistics Act of 2009 recognises the National Statistical System comprising statistics producers and users, hence the collaboration with HRDC affirms commitment to effective production and use of official statistics.
Majelantle said such kind of collaborations will help SB in augmenting challenges of availing timely information to stakeholders which emanates from challenges such as human resource adequacy in terms of numbers, capacity and financial constraints.
For his part, HRD acting CEO, Dr Patrick Molutsi, said the agreement will be come in handy to the council to align graduates from universities and colleges to the needs of employers.
