The adage that being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional was written all over the face of Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi when asked about the looming challenge ahead of the 2019 Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) special congress. Responding a question during the BDP media briefing, Masisi said that he is ready for any challenge and knows about people who are intending to take on him for the BDP presidency ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“I don’t lose sleep over this and will do a gentle battle with them,” said the confident BDP chairman, adding that they are political animals and will protect them as they have rights to declare their interest. Some of the democrats who have interest in challenging him include the former cabinet minister Boyce Sebetlela and Botswana’s ambassador to Japan Jacob Nkate. He called on the democrats to campaign properly in order to protect the integrity of the party and said that it is the majority who will decide who lead the party to 2019 General Elections.
