Education Minister Unity Dow has been forced to make a hasty retreat on the planned amendment of the BEC Act, after a spirited campaign of intense lobbying and advocacy by teacher trade unions and BOFEPUSU last week. Dow on Monday afternoon withdrew the intended Amendments of BEC Act, which the unions said are not only unlawful but also draconian. BOFEPUSU and BOSETU Secretary General Tobokani Rari; "We thank very much all stakeholders who assisted us in this campaign especially the opposition parliamentary caucus which we addressed twice last week. We as well thank very much Minister Dow and the entire Executive for being bold to withdraw the bill, and those in the ruling party who came out to support the cause of workers. This is a sign of good leadership that responds to the concerns of the citizenry".
