Fifty (50) firearm licence applicants have been selected from an arms quota raffle draw held at Police Headquarters on 19/05/16. The selected applicants were part of the 3540 people who had applied for firearm licences. Speaking at the event, the Acting Commissioner of Police Victor Paledi, who is also the chairman of the Arms Quota Board, said the 50 applicants will undergo further screening processes such as finger printing for criminal clearance before acquiring fire arm licenses. He pleaded with those who will be successful to be vigilant and strict when it comes to handling, lending and borrowing of firearms as this will help in reducing incidents of unlawful use of firearms. He however, said there is a problem of people who after acquiring permits, later come back and transfer ownership to others. He said in 2015 a total of 668 transfers were processed.
