There was confusion on Monday when President Ian Khama nearly failed to present the State of the Nation (SONA) due to a bout of flu he was suffering from. The Speaker of the National Assembly Gladys Kokorwe announced that President Khama had caught flu bug and might not be able to read the SONA. Should President Khama have failed to read or complete reading SONA speech, Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi would have taken over, according to Kokorwe. This was going to be the first time that a sitting head of state failed to read his SONA speech. When he finally arrived he was looking healthy and read the speech without coughing or taking breaks as announced by the speaker, the only difference being that he was reading fast.
