A hot elections weekend

The Department of Meteorological Services has said the country will experience extremely hot temperatures in the northern parts over the next few days.

The most affected districts are the Gantsi, Ngamiland, Chobe and the northern parts of the Central districts. Temperatures over these areas are expected to reach highs of between 38 degrees Celsius and 41degress Celsius up to Monday 27th October 2014. Temperatures are then expected to drop slightly by about 2-3 degrees Celsius thereafter.

The department advised members of the public in the affected areas to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from extreme temperatures. These measures may include among others: Drink more water regardless of your activity level; avoid prolonged stay under the sun, if at all possible stay under the shade; protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat or something to cover your head.

The department has said that it will keep monitoring the conditions, and will update the public accordingly.
